Panoramic View of The Ridge, Shimla

I guess blogger allows images only of a certain size/s. If you wish to see the original photo, please write to me

Below are a couple of images from the panoramic view. At one end is the famous church in the backdrop of the wooded hills; and opposite is the Gaiety theater, currently being restored, with nothing but the open sky framing the roofs.

Postcards of Lower Bazaar, Shimla

Walking down the uneven lanes lined with houses lacking all symmetry is pure magic. The houses simply mushroom over each other - the floors, spreading out in seemingly random directions. No two windows are the same, no two colors are the same, no two angles are similar; yet the mass forms a cohesive, cozy whole.

Postcards of a Dilapidated Cemetry, near the wooded hills of Shimla

"Private Cemetry// This private cemetry was opened in the 1870s for the nuns of the Convent of Jesus and Mary. Some of the Loreto order are also interred under the shady deodars. The memorial by the gate is dedicated to Colonel Parker who died in 1837, however his body was not interred here - and this cenotaph was placed here at the behest of Colonel Tapp, Superintendent of Hill States."

"The MEMORY of/ COL. CH A'S, PARKER/ BENGAL Art'Y/ Who died at Simla, 27th, April 1837/ AeTAT, 54/ This monument has been erected by his brother officers in token of their regard; and esteem for a warm friend and an ornament to their profession"
